Vertical Lines

I came back to my monitor today to find these odd vertical lines. They are visible whether connected to my mac pro or macbook.

Has anyone discovered the cause, and or fix? Thanks.

It's a hardware issue, you need to take it in for repair.

Do you have an update on this issue? Mine is doing the exact same thing and I was told to bring the monitor in for hardware issues ...

I had the vertical lines problem. I purchased my IMac in June 2007. Apple knows about this problem. The affected IMacs were made in the W8 Shanghi China factory. Call Apple Express 877-388-0879. Tell the tech to look at Apple support thread ID 1146388. You will be instructed how to send the tech a picture of your desktop. You will be given a case number. I took my mac to a Mac store and the LED display screen was replaced for free.

I tried to call, Apple won't talk to me without an Applecare Protection Plan or paying a $50 per-incident charge. I don't want to have to pay $50 to talk to them when it's not certain they'll even fix it.

My iMac is an Intel Core 2 Duo 17" late 2006, serial starts with W863, with so many vertical lines on it now that it's unusable without an external display. I've taken it to the Apple Store twice - the first time a couple years ago, when they asked $600 to fix it, and a few weeks ago when they asked for $500 to fix it. The display showed its first vertical line when the machine was maybe 2 years old (and I didn't have Applecare, stupidly), and by now there's only about 3/4" of screen that's even visible through the lines.

Anybody had a late 2006 machine fixed for free? Can you give me the case number to give to the Apple Store technician?
